Dear Mayor Tremblay,

I am writing to you as a resident of [MUNICIPALITY], and a taxpayer of the Agglomeration of Montreal. It has been over 20 years that we have been requesting that Meadowbrook be saved as a natural green space.

In 2003, as Mayor of Montreal you undertook to save the golf course from development and promised that you would work in the best interests of all the residents of the west end. In June 2009, the Commission of the Agglomeration presided by Michel Labrecque, (now President of the STM), recommended that Meadowbrook be protected and that it be transformed into a nature park, a large urban park or eco territory which would be integrated into the green belt connected to the Falaise Saint-Jacques.

It is time for the City of Montreal and the Agglomeration to adopt the recommendations of the Labrecque Commission and to make good on the Mayor’s promise.

Listen to the people. Keep your word. Adopt the recommendations of the Labrecque Commission and Protect Meadowbrook.

I am writing to you about the urgent need to preserve Meadowbrook.  En 2003, en tant que Maire de Montréal vous vous êtes engagé à trouver une solution et de travailler dans le meilleur intérêt de tous les citoyens de l’ouest de l’île. En juin 2009, la commission du conseil d’agglomération sous la présidence de Michel Labrecque, maintenant président de la STM, a recommandé de donner mandat à la direction des services des parcs de la Ville « de développer des scénarios visant la protection du site du golf de Meadowbrook et sa transformation en parc nature, en grand parc urbain ou en éco territoire dans la perspective d’une trame verte reliant ce site à la falaise Saint Jacques ».

Recently, this year, the City of Montreal unveiled its plan to attract and retain young families.  As my family grows, I want to be able to teach my children about species of trees and colours of the birds.  I want to be able to foster respect for animals and their homes.  I want to take walks in the grass, bike long paths, and sit by streams.  I want my children to play outside.  Where in South West Montreal can my family make this dream a reality? Meadowbrook.  How will you keep my family in Montreal? by preserving Meadowbrook.

By allowing the destruction of such a magnificent green space, you are destroying opportunities for my family, you are destroying the opportunities of future generations, and you are destroying the opportunities of all citizens of Montreal.

Mr. Mayor, as the Vice Chair of Worlds Mayors Council on Climate Change, with special focus on biodiversity, you will recall that you announced to the world that “The role played by Montreal in the field of biodiversity is vital.”  I look forward to witnessing your leadership in la preservation des espaces verts de L’Île de Montréal.

SAMPLE LETTER #3

Dear Mayor Tremblay,

I am writing to you as a citizen of [MUNICIPALITY], and a taxpayer of the Agglomeration of Montreal.  I understand that Meadowbrook Golf Course is being considered for development.  This is terrible news and I urge you with all my heart to prevent this from taking place.  This green space is beautiful and precious and it would be a crime against our children if it were not preserved.  We must ensure that this wonderful place is available for the enjoyment of your great, great grandchildren a hundred years from now when the nearest open country may be many kilometres away.  This is one of the most important things that you could do for the city and I would suggest that if you were the person that made sure it became a park, you would be remembered for hundreds of years into the future with respect and gratitude.  If you allow it to be developed you will horribly disappoint many thousands of Montrealers.   I again urge you to do the moral and caring thing for this city and the world.
